Configure Data Exploration
A Data Exploration configuration defines what researchers see in Data Exploration for the datasets that use it: the filter cards and attributes, the charts, and the Person List.
To open the editor, go to the Admin Portal, select Setup and open Cohort builder config.
Manage configurations
At the top of the list, select the Data Model Configuration whose Data Exploration configurations you want to see. The list then shows a card for each configuration, with its creator, its status and a validity icon.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| New | Created, but not saved yet. |
| Saved | Saved without pending changes. |
| Changed | Has changes that are not saved yet. |
The validity icon shows whether the configuration is valid, invalid, or not validated yet. Select the icon of an invalid configuration to see its errors.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Add Configuration | Creates a new configuration based on the selected data model configuration. |
| Import Configuration | Creates a configuration from JSON. Choose the data model version and paste the configuration. |
| Save | Validates the configuration and saves it. A configuration with errors cannot be saved. |
| Validate | Checks the configuration for errors and warnings without saving it. |
| Duplicate | Creates a copy of the configuration. |
| Preview | Shows the configuration as JSON, with an option to copy it. |
| Import | Replaces the settings of the configuration with pasted JSON. |
| Export | Downloads the configuration as a JSON file. If there are unsaved changes, select Save and Export. |
| Delete | Deletes the configuration. |
Do not delete a configuration that is still assigned to a dataset. Assign another configuration to the dataset first. See Assign a configuration to a dataset.
Configuration Details
The Configuration Details tab holds the general information of the configuration:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The name shown in the list and in the PA config dropdown when you create or update a dataset. |
| Clinical Data Model Version | The version of the data model configuration this configuration is based on. Select Only Show Active Versions to hide inactive and draft versions. |
| Creator | The user who created the configuration. |
| Notes | Free text, for example to describe what the configuration is for. |
| Wizards JSON | The configuration of the analysis wizards for datasets that use this configuration. Select Edit Wizards JSON to change it. The JSON must be an object with a wizards array. |
Switch to a newer data model version
When a newer version of the data model configuration is activated, the editor shows the warning "A different version of the clinical data model configuration is active." To switch to the newer version:
- On the Configuration Details tab, select the new version in Clinical Data Model Version.
- In the Change Clinical Data Model Version dialog, choose one of the following:
- Keep Current Settings: keeps your filter cards, attributes and chart settings where possible. Settings for elements that the new version no longer contains cannot be kept.
- Discard Current Settings: resets the configuration to the defaults of the new version.
- Check the configuration, then select Save.

The Application Settings tab holds settings that apply to Data Exploration as a whole:
